Mechanical Design
OpenArm uses a modular aluminum frame with a uniform M6 mounting grid for easy integration of end-effectors, sensors, and custom payloads. The anthropomorphic 7-DOF structure enables human-like redundancy, natural mapping from human demonstrations, and reduced policy complexity for learning-based control.
Actuation
Joint-level actuation prioritizes compliance and backdrivability—critical for safe human-in-the-loop demonstrations and contact-rich manipulation tasks. The system supports gravity compensation, impedance control, and force control.
